THE COLD TEMPERATURES ARE MOVING OUT AND THE RAIN IUS MOVING IN.  50% CHANCE OF RAIN TODAY AND TOMORROW AND MILDER TEMPERATURES WITH HIGHS AROUND  65 TO 70 AND LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 50’S.

 

THE PUTNAM COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE HAS BEEN CALLED IN TO INVESTIGATE THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO WAS INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF MICHELLE OCONNELL, THE GIRLFRIEND OF A ST JOHNS COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTY BACK IN 2010.  BECAUSE THE SHOOTING DEATH OF MCCONNEL IS CONNECTED TO THE ST JOHNS COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE THEY HAVE ASKED PUTNAM COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE TO HANDLE THE INVESTIGATION.  THE MAN WHO WAS DOING AN INDEPENDENT INVESTTIGATION INTO THE DEATH OF MCCONNELL WAS FOUND SHOT TO DEATH YESTERDAY MORNING AT A WORLD GOLF VILLIAGE CONDOMINIUM.

 

THE SIRENS WERE SOUNDING YESTERDAY AS TWO HOUSES WENT UP IN FLAMES YESTERDAY.  1206 SOUTH 12TH STREET IN PALATKA WAS THE FIRST HOME FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED TO THURSDAY ABOUT 10AM.  IT WAS A VACANT HOME AND SPECULATION WAS IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE.   THE SECOND FIRE WAS CALLED IN AFTER NOON AT 108 HOLLISTER CHURCH ROAD. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED IN EITHER FIRE AND THE CAUSE OF BOTH FIRES IS UNKNOWN.

 

BANK ROBBERS TUNNELING IN FROM A NEARBY BUILDING IS SOMETHING YOU SEE IN THE MOVIES, BUT IN PEMBROOKE PINES A PUBLIC WORKS CREW DISCOVERED A 150 FOOT LONG TUNNEL  FROM A WOODED AREA UNDER THE ROAD TO THE CHASE BANK.  THE TUNNEL IS NOW A TRENCH AND THE FBI IS INVESTIGATING THE ATTEMPTED BANK ROBBERY.

 

IN PALATKA THE ST JOHNS RIVER WILL BE COVERED WITH BASS FISHERMAN IN A FEW DAYS AS THE 2019 BASSMASTR ELITE SERIES BEGINS ON FEBRUARY 7TH AND GOES THROUGH THE 10TH.  THERE ARE 75 ANGLERS TRAVELING HERE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE A HUGE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE AREA.  IT’S AN ESTIMATED 2.2 MILLION DOLLARS IMPACT FOR THE FOUR DAY TOURNAMENT ACCORDING TO CHAMBER PRESIDENT DANA JONES.  THAT MONEY COMES IN THE WAY OF HOTELS, RESTAURNTS, AND SHOPPING.

 

FINDING OUT HOW HEALTHY YOU ARE WILL NEVER BE EASIER OR LESS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE OF THE PALATKA ROTARY CLUB’S FREE HEALTH FAIR COMING UP TOMORROW 8 TO NOON AT THE ST JOHNS RIVER STATE COLLEGE GYM.  IT IS OPEN TO EVERYONE WITH FREE HEALTH TESTS, EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS, AND EVEN CHILDRENS ACTIVITIES.  THE FREE EVENT IS HELD EACH YEAR IN CONNECTION WITH THEIR ANNUAL LOW COST BLOOD DRAWS. ITS SUPER BOWL WEEKEND AND THE BIG EVENT IS JUST A LITTLE NORTH OF US IN ATLANTA.  LOCALLY MANY OF THE CHURCHES AND GROUPS ARE HAVING THEIR SOUPER BOWL EVENTS WHICH FEATURE ASKING PEOPLE TO DONATE CANS OF SOUP TO LOCAL FOOD KITCHENS OR SERVING UP SOUP FOR A DONATION TO THE FOOD BANKS. SO NO MATTER WHICH TEAM WINS THE LOCAL FOOD BANKS AND FOOD KITCHENS WILL DEFINITLY BE WINNERS
