IN LOCAL NEWS SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS RICK SURRANCY SAYS HE IS HOPING FOR GOOD THINGS FROM THE LEGISLATURE WITH INCREASES IN SCHOOL FUNDING.  HOW MUCH OF AN INCREASE IN PER STUDENT FUNDING IS STILL BEING DEBATED BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS AN INCREASE IS WHAT THEY ARE WORKING ON VERSUS CUTS IN FUNDING.  ANOTHER CHANGE BEING PROPOSED IS WORKING O N CHANGES TO THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST TEACHER BONUS AND TAKING OUT THE SCORES ON SAT AND ACT TESTS.

 

PUTNAM COUNTY IS NOT LAST BUT SECOND FROM THE BOTTOM IN THE RANKINGS FOR HEALTH OUTCOMES AND HEALTH FACTORS IN FLORIDA .PUTNAM RANKS 66 OUT OF 67 COUNTIES. THE REPORT WHICH COMES OUT EACH YEAR LOOKS AT QUALITY OF LIFE, CLINICAL CARE AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC FACTORS.  ST JOHNS COUNTY RANKS NUMBER ONE IN THE STATE.

 

THE PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR OPENS TOMORROW NIGHT AT 5PM AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN EAST PALATKA.  ENTRIES HAVE BEEN GOING ON THE PAST TWO WEEKS FOR HORTICULTURE, HOME DIVISION, ART, LIVESTOCK, BAKERY AND CANDY AND OTHER EXHIBITS.  THIS YEARS FAIR WILL FEATURE LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT A HYPNOTIST SHOW, WHIP CRACKING CONTEST, RACING PIGS, AND LOCAL COUNTRY MUSIC PERFORMER KIM “TK” HILTON WILL BE THERE SATURDAY NIGHT.  THE CIVIC CLUB LUNCHEON WILL BE HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND SENIOR CITIZEN DAY IS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT THE FAIR.THE ANNUAL KIWANIS CLUB BBQ WILL BE A WEEK FROM TODAY THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE FAIRGROUNDS TO BENEFIT RODEHEAVER BOYS RANCH.
