THE REVITALIATION AND GROWTH OF DOWNTOWN PALATKA TAKE PLACE FROM QUINT STRUDER WHO WAS HIRED TO COME AND HELP PALATKA BECOME A VIBRANT COMMUNITY.  STRUDER SAID GROWTH IS SOMETIMES A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE BUT NECEESSARY.  SOME OF THE POSITIVE THINGS HE POINTED TO RECENTLY INCLUDE THE PLACEMENT OF THE HOTEL JAMES ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER AND THE PURCHASE OF THE OLD JC PENNEY BUILDING IN THE ONE HUNDRED BLOCK OF ST JOHNS AVE BY LOCAL INVESTORS.

 

ABOUT 200 VOLUNTEERS GATHERED TO PACKKAGE AND PREPARE HUNDREDS OF FOOD ITEMS TO BE PUT IN BACKPACKS TO GIVE TO KIDS TO TAKE HOME ON THE WEEKEND.  THE NON PROFIT GROUP CALLED FEED THE NEED PROVIDES FOOD FILLED BACKPACKS TO AREA CHILDREN WHO MMAY NOT HAVE ANY FOOD TO EAT AT HOME ON THE WEEKENDS.  24 HUNDRED MEALS WERE ASSEMBLED WHICH MEANS THAT IS ENOUGH FOR 800 CHILDREN FOR TWO AND A HALF MONTHS ACCORDING TO THE FOUNDER OF FEED THE NEED DENISE BRAMLITT.

 

ITS TIME TO CLEAN UP THE ST JOHNS RIVER AS THE INTERNATIONAL COSTAL CLEANUP IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY.  KEEP PUTNAM BEAUTIFUL WILL HAVE ALL THE GLOVES GRABBERS AND GARBAGE BAGS FOR YOU AT THE ST JOHNS RIVER CENTER IN DOWNTOWN PALATKA AT 9AM TOMORROW MORNING.

 

TONIGHT WILLIAM BARTRUM WILL BE HONORED WITH SONGS AND STORIES AND ART AS THE ARTS COUNCIL OF GREATER PALATKA AND THE BARTRUM SOCIETY OF FLORIDA PRESENTS A GALLERY SHOW FEATURING WORKS OF ART THRU BARTRUMS EYES FOLLOWED BY A LIVE PERFORMANCE BY PUTNAM COUNTY SINGER SONGWRITERS.  THE EVENT STARTS AT 5:30 WITH THE GALLERY OPENING AND THE MUSIC AT 7:30 AT THE LARIMER ARTS CENTER AT 216 REID STREET IN PALATKA.

 

 

  1. AUGUSTINE’S SING OUT LOUD MUSIC FESTIVAL, SPONSORED THIS YEAR BY THE ST. AUGUSTINE DISTILLERY, IS THE LARGEST FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL IN FLORIDA. THERE WILL BE DONATION-BASED RESERVED SEATING AVAILABLE FOR THE SEPTEMBER 21 MAIN SHOWCASE, FEATURING KACEY MUSGRAVES, AT THE ST. AUGUSTINE AMPHITHEATRE. PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HORSEPLAY THERAPY CENTER AND GREEN HANDS COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVES.

THIS SATURDAY THE 21ST IS SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY WITH A NUMBER OF AREA MUSEUMS TAKING PART INCLUDING THE FLORIDA AGRICULTURAL MUSEUM AT PRINCESS PLACE IN FLAGLER COUNTY THE LIGHTNER MUSEUM, PENA-PECK HOUSE, THE LIGHTHOUSE AND WORLD GOLF HALL OF FAME
THE GALA OF THE ROYAL HORSES, CELEBRATING THE TRADITIONAL PERFORMANCES OF THE FAMOUS RIDING SCHOOLS IN VIENNA AND SPAIN, WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE ST. JOHNS COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, AT 4:00 P.M.
THE SHOW HAS BEEN RECREATED BY RIDING MASTER RENÉ GASSER, WHOSE FAMILY HAS TRAINED THESE HORSES FOR SEVEN GENERATIONS. THE ROYAL HORSES OF EUROPE ARE WORLD-FAMOUS FOR THEIR PERFORMANCES THAT FEATURE THE LIPIZZANER STALLIONS, THE SPANISH ANDALUSIAN, AND FRIESIAN HORSES, AS WELL AS THE RECENTLY ADDED QUARTER HORSE. THE MANEUVERS EXECUTED BY HORSE AND RIDER SHOW OFF THE BEAUTY AND ATHLETICISM OF THE HORSES AND THE TRAINING SKILLS OF THE RIDERS.
