THE STORK WILL NOT BE VISITING PUTNAM COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER AFTER MARCH OF NEXT YEAR.  THE HOSPITAL HAS MADE THE DECISION TO STOP DELIVERING BABIES AND PROVIDING MATERNITY CARE.  HOSPITAL CEO MARK DOOLEY SAID THE DECISION WAS NOT MADE BECAUSE OF FINANCES, BUT TO ALLOW THE HOSPITAL TO FOCUS ON OTHER UNMET NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY.   THE NUMBER OF PREGNANT WOMEN SERVED HAS DROPPED CONSISTENTLY OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS.  DOOLEY SAID QUOTE “WE ARE IN A SITUATION THAT OUR VOLUMES ARE NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF OUR CLINICAL TEAM”   THE HOSPITAL WILL END THE MATERNITY SERVICES MARCH 11 OF 2020.

 

A WOMAN’S BODY THAT WAS FOUND FLOATING IN THE INTRACOSTAL WATERWAY IN ST AUGUSTINE ON MONDAY HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 29 YEAR OLD KENYA ROSE CHE BII.  THE PRELIMINARY CAUSE OF DEATH IS DROWNING.  NO INJURIES OR INDICATIONS OF FOUL PLAY HAVE BEEN FOUND.  BUT THE SHERIFFS OFFICE IS ASKING FOR ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT HER BACKGROUND OR WHEREABOUTS LEADING UP TO HER DEATH TO COME FORWARD.SHE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING A PINK DRESS, WHITE T SHIRT AND A PAIR OF WHITE FLOWERED SANDALS IN THE AREA AROUND DOWNTOWN ST AUGUSTINE NEAR WASHINGTON STREET.

 

PUTNAM COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT RICK SURRENCY WAS A GUEST OF THE NATIONAL SUPERINTENDENTS AT A MEETING IN CALIFORNIA RECENTLY.  THE PUTNAM COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS GRADUATION RATE SPURRED THE REQUEST FOR SURRENCY TO SHARE THE STORY OF HOW THE DISTRICT HAS IMPROVED. PUTNAM COUNTY IMPROVED THE MOST OF ANY DISTRICT IN FLORIDA BETWEEN 2015 AND 2018.  WE MOVED FROM ALMOST 55 PERCENT TO ALMOST 85 PERCENT.   SURRENCY CREDITED THE DEDICATION OF PRINCIPALS, TEACHERS, PARENTS AND STUDENTS.

 

MEMBERS OF THE PUTNAM COUNTY WOMEN’S CLUBS ATTENDED A MEETING OF THE PUTNAM FIRST CANCER FUND YESTERDAY AND PRESENTED THEM A CHECK FOR $12,000 WHICH WAS THE PROCEEDS FROM PINK 0UT PUTNAM, AN EVENT HELD IN OCTOBER FEATURING VARIOUS FUNDRAISERS TO PROMOTED BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.  MANY PEOPLE SAW THE PINK FLAMINGOS THAT FLOCKED AREA BUSINESSES AS ONE OF THE MOST VISIBLE FUNDRAISERS ALONG WITH BAGGING GROCERIES, RIB SALES AND SALE OF PINK OUT ITEMS AND T SHIRTS AT AREA EVENTS.

 

DETECTIVES HAVE COMPLETED AN INVESTIGATION STEMMING FROM AN AGGRAVATED BATTERY AND ARMED ROBBERY, WHICH OCCURRED IN APRIL. THE CALL INITIALLY BEGAN WHEN A MALE VICTIM ENTERED FLAGLER HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS FACIAL INJURIES SUSTAINED FROM BEING BATTERED BY SEVERAL SUBJECTS. A LEAD HELPED DETECTIVES IDENTIFY THE SUBJECTS, THE SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS, ALEC JAMES LECOMPTE, 22; RICHARD WILLIAM HORTON, 20 CHADWICK BRYAN TATUM, 28, AND ANTHONY DALE HOWELL, JR., 19, ALL OF ST. AUGUSTINE.

 

OCTOBER IS MANUFACTURING MONTH AND EACH YEAR, THE FIRST COAST MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATION CONNECTS LOCAL SCHOOLS WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO VISIT MANUFACTURERS IN OUR REGION. THIS YEAR, FROM PALATKA HIGH SCHOOL, INTERLACHEN HIGH SCHOOL, AND CRESCENT CITY HIGH SCHOOL VISITED VAC-CON IN GREEN COVE SPRINGS.
