Putnam County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating a shooting off Poplar Drive in Interlachen Wednesday that left one man dead. “Some sort of disagreement” between two men led to the shooting, according to Allison Waters-Merritt, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office. She said there are houses in the area but none on the property where the shooting took place around 1:30 p.m. One man was taken to the hospital where he died. The other was cooperating with detectives and answering questions Wednesday.

At tonight’s’ Palatka City Commission meeting four Palatka police officers and one Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy will be honored for saving the life of an individual who overdosed last week. The ceremony comes as Sheriff Gator DeLoach has criticized Palatka Mayor Terrill Hill for harassing officers. At a meeting of the Putnam Republican Club earlier this week DeLoach urged residents to turn out for the meeting and support officers. Hill, who filed his intent to run for re-election earlier this week, has denied that charge and others including he objected to a police presence on the northside of Palatka. That comes as patrols have increased in the area in response to eight shootings — six on the northside — over a two-week period. One officer is on administrative leave for two complaints, one of which was resolved last year but has been reopened.

Rain delayed the first day of tournament play at The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra this morning. The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass was closed Wednesday to the public as rain and winds whipped through the area while players held a practice round. On Wednesday night the annual World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremonies saw golf superstars Tiger Woods, retired PGA Tour commission Tim Finchem, three-time U.S. Open champion Susie Maxwell Berning and the late Marion Hollins, first woman to develop golf courses and a former U.S. Women’s Amateur champion and Curtis Cup captain, join the hall’s honorees.

The Flagler County Planning Board rejected a proposed 1,218 home development at Eagle Lakes project by a 4-2 vote Tuesday night. Continued opposition from neighboring residents centered on the smaller lots and traffic impact concerns on the two-lane road serving the 600-acre site. The county and the developer are disagreeing with how many homes can be built and what the traffic impact will be.

A 26-year-old man working on cell phone equipment on the water tower in the Hammock in Flagler County fell an estimated 120 feet Tuesday evening. Brandon O’Neill of Orlando was taken to Halifax hospital as a trauma alert after he was resend by Flagler County Fire Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team.
