Hope you took the time to watch the launch of the SpaceX Atlas V this morning. For a couple of great shots of the 6:29 a.m. launch, check out photos on the WPLK/WIYD website. The Palatka riverfront and beaches in St. Johns and Flagler counties offered excellent spots to watch the rocket and its spectacular trail. If you missed this morning’s launch, a Falcon 9 goes up tonight at 7:08 p.m. That will be  South Korea’s first lunar mission.

St. Johns County is seeking to put in a new boat ramp and park on the San Sebastian River, north of State Road 312. County commissioners gave the okay to spending $17.5 million for the land Tuesday. The county is pushing for more waterway access as increasing numbers of people move to the area.

Welaka ends its summer festival run with a Fireworks and Food Trucks Friday in the downtown area from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The city event has proved a popular monthly activity in the South Florida town on the St. Johns River.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three people after serving a narcotics search warrant at a house on Avocado Boulevard in Bunnell. A 41-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man were arrested and jailed Tuesday. The warrant was based on a previous undercover operation, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. Fentanyl, methamphetamine, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia were recovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting in the area of St. Augustine Boulevard and Kings Estate Road Wednesday. Deputies were called to the area around 4 a.m. One teen was shot several times and was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another teen was detained and several witnesses were interviewed.

William “B.J.” Laurie is joining the race for Crescent City Commission. He’s filed his intent to run for the Group 2 seat in the 2022 election cycle, according to Charles Overturf III, Putnam supervisor of elections.

National Weather Service reports a 71-year-old St. Johns County man was injured Tuesday night after a lightning strike. The man was taken to a hospital with burns to his face. Monday and Tuesday area counties reported heavy lightning strikes. Florida is considered the lightning capital of the United States. 

The Nutcracker is one of the events of the St. Augustine Christmas season. On Aug. 13 beginning at 9:30 a.m. the St. Augustine Ballet holds auditions for roles during auditions at 1711 Lakeside Ave. No. 10 in St. Augustine. Sign up online at The school is holding an open house/registration this Friday from 4:45 to 7 p.m. with a free class from 5-6 p.m. for potential students.

Tonight enjoy flamenco and gypsy music at Concerts In the Plaza at the Plaza de la Constitucion in downtown St. Augustine. The group Gypsy Stars will perform from 7-9 p.m. Don’t forget to bring a chair or blanket for the free concert.
